ABOUT THIS TOOL

Free Slug Generator — Create Clean URL Slugs

Turn titles and phrases into lowercase URL slugs with hyphen or underscore separators and optional Unicode preservation.

What the slug generator changes

The generator lowercases the input, removes combining diacritic marks where possible, replaces runs of separators and punctuation with one chosen separator, and trims separators from the edges.

ASCII mode removes non-Latin characters instead of inventing transliterations. Unicode preservation keeps letters from other writing systems in the slug.

Readable slugs are easier to manage

A short descriptive slug can make routes easier to read, share and maintain. It should represent the page topic without repeating an entire sentence.

Changing a published slug can break inbound links unless the old URL is redirected, so treat live URL changes carefully.

FAQ

Common questions

Does the tool transliterate Cyrillic or other scripts?

No. ASCII mode removes non-Latin characters rather than guessing a transliteration. Enable Unicode preservation if you want those letters kept.

Can I use underscores instead of hyphens?

Yes. The separator selector supports hyphens and underscores.

Does it lowercase the slug?

Yes. Output is normalized to lowercase.

Should I change an existing indexed URL just to improve the slug?

Not casually. A URL change can affect links and indexing; use redirects when changing a published route.
